The Canyon View varsity girls basketball team opened up their 2020-21 season with a loss to crosstown rival Verrado by a score of 56-44. Freshman Madison Reibel scored 23 points in her varsity debut to lead the Lady Jaguars.
The Lady Vipers jumped out to an early lead before the Jaguars were able to claw back to make the score 15-7 at the end of the first quarter. Canyon View outscored Verrado during the second quarter to make it 19-14 at halftime. Reibel led the way with five first half points.
Verrado used a full court press to pull away to start the second half scoring 17 unanswered points. The Lady Jags were able to settle down and get back in the game, but still trailed by a score of 41-24 at the end of the third quarter.
Canyon View did get make it interesting down the stretch pulling within single digits with three minutes to play, but Verrado was able to regain control and extend their lead.
Junior Caidyn Spickler scored 11 points and center Taylor Jacobs added seven points to help pace the Lady Jags.
