The Canyon View girls golf team wrapped up their 2020 season by finishing 4th overall at the Division II State Championships. Junior Makenzie Cooper finished tied for 6th overall with a two-day score of 155 at the OMNI Tucson National Catalina Course.

Cooper was joined by classmate Abi Morris at the top-half of the standings with Morris finishing 15th overall with a score of 159. Emilee Swagger and Haley Canterbury both finished in the top 50 after shooting 180 and 195 respectively. Danielle Murrieta also had a strong showing after finishing 71st overall.

“State is such a tough event, and the pressure can expose even some of our greatest golfers in the state,” coach Scott Jones said. “On day one we really leaned on freshman Haley Canterbury to keep us competitive and on day two we really leaned on our veterans of the program.”

Ironwood Ridge, Cactus Shadows and Catalina Foothills were the only schools to finish ahead of the Lady Jags who shot a combined 689. Ironwood Ridge won their second straight championship after holding off Cactus Shadows by a narrow margin last year.
