The Canyon View varsity football team and coaching staff are very excited to get their season underway after receiving the green light to begin playing. In addition to being a new program and having a new head coach, the team has also had to make adjustments due to COVID restrictions.
“Since it’s our first year at the varsity level, I would like to see growth in each player and as a team, I would like to finish with a winning record.” head coach Scott Harris said.
The team has a difficult schedule, but assistant coach Aaron Upsher is looking forward to kicking off the season in a few weeks.
“Opening night is what I’m looking forward to (Oct. 2 at Desert Edge),” coach Upsher said.. “We get to open the season against a team who was in the State Championship games last year. It will be a test to see how our players respond as first year varsity players to a team who has a winning tradition. I truly believe that we can compete with anyone else we face, they just have to believe and trust in themselves.”
Everyone has high hopes and is very excited for the season to start.
“I believe that the number one goal is to make the playoffs because that should be a goal every year,” coach Upsher said. “It will be tough this year because they are only taking eight teams to the playoffs, not 16 as usual because of the season starting later due to the pandemic.”
