Summer Activities Parent-Guardian Waiver
Start Goal: June 1, 2020
The AFUHSD understands the importance of returning our student athletes to their sports and
competition. We will return to participation in a phased approach maintaining safety guidelines from the National Federation of High School Sports, CDC, and the state. It is important to understand, because of the diversity in sports, each sport will not be treated equally.
Guidelines are subject to change and will be updated based on new information.
Environment
- Groups cannot be any larger than 10 total individuals (includes coaches and
athletes) - Groups may utilize larger spaces with multiple groups
- Two groups of 10 in the gym, but on separate sides of the court
- Four groups of 10 using four corners of a field
- Two band sections on opposite sides of the field
- Coaches and athletes must maintain a minimum of 6 ft physical distance with 8 ft
preferred - It is recommended that groups remain the same to allow for easy attendance and,
if needed, contact tracing.
Standard Stay Healthy Procedures
- Coach and Athletes will wash their hands or use hand sanitizer each time
they enter and leave a practice environment. (Gym, Weightroom, Classroom, Practice Field) - Avoid touching your face.
- Coaches and Athletes are required to wear a mask/face covering if they are
proximity to others. Masks may be taken off for high aerobic conditioning. - Coaches/Athletes who refuse to wear a mask will not be permitted to
conduct practices. - Coaches/Athletes are required to complete the healthy self-certification
before each practice. - Coaches/Athletes are required to have their temperature checked before
each practice.- Coaches/Athletes who have a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be
sent home. Once the coach/athlete is fever free for 72 hours and
without fever reducing medication they may return to practice. - Testing-if a coach/athlete tests negative for COVID-19 and brings
medical documentation, they may return prior.

- Coaches need to ensure athletes are coming clean and in clean workout gear each
day. - Avoid handshakes, high fives, fist bumps, etc.
- Athletes are required to bring their own water/towel.
- Athletes should not share water or towels
- Locker Rooms shall not be used at this time.
Drills
- Drills that allow for a minimum of 6 ft physical distance between athletes is
permissible with a recommendation of 8 ft - Contact drill are not permissible
- Scrimmages are not permissible
Weightroom
- Pre and Post Cleaning of the weightroom needs to be completed each day.
- If you are the first one there, complete a pre-cleaning.
- If you are the last one there, complete a post-cleaning.
- Any holes in weight room equipment should be covered.
- Groups cannot be any larger than 10 total individuals
- Coaches and athletes must maintain a minimum 6 ft physical distance
- Coaches must wear a face mask/covering. Athletes, while in the weightroom, must
wear a face mask/covering. - Lifts that require a spotter may not be performed at this time. It is recommended
that only sub-maximal lifting begin in this phase. - Sanitizing of the weightroom needs to be your #1 priority.
- Coaches need to ensure that proper sanitizing supplies are available. (contact your athletic director to communicate needs.)
- Weight Room equipment needs to be wiped down after every use. This
includes manipulatives like med balls, plates, dumbbells.
Use of Balls
- There cannot be any shared use of balls. Refer to the NFHS guidelines for
examples. - Balls must be cleaned after each use.
- Coaches need to educate athletes on single person ball use and develop a system
to ensure that shared use does not occur.
Athletic Training
- General use of the athletic training room is not permissible.
- If needed, one coach may enter the training room for an ice bag.
- Water coolers for group use are not permissible.
Other
- It is not recommended that children accompany coaches. Children will count
towards the group total. - Parents/Guests are not allowed to be present as this will increase the total number
allowed.
Special Notes
- Guidelines will be adjusted to reflect NFHS/CDC/State recommendations and
phased reopening. - Any program in violation of these guidelines will not be permitted to continue
summer activities.
